On June 22, 1987 a first born son was born to Allison & Miranda Bernard from Eskasoni First Nation, Nova Scotia.  He was a big brother to Ashton and Arden. He grew up to be a fine young man.  He completed grade 9  and attended the Eskasoni Middle & Elementary School.  He played all sports and had a special interest in playing hockey.  He played AAA hockey since he started Minor Hockey at the age of five and played spring elite hockey.

Addison lost his life in August 2001 from an ATV accident at a young age of fourteen years.  Throughout Addison's young years he accomplished so much in his short years.  After Addison's accident the family decided to have a memorial hockey tournament in his memory.  The inaugural Addison Bernard Memorial hockey tournament took place in Eskasoni in  November of 2002

Miranda and Allison, Addison's parents worked tirelessly to make the tournament a success and it showed with the overwhelming support from local residents and the Mi'kmaq hockey nation. Teams from all over Atlantic Canada took the trek to Eskasoni to support and keep the spirit of Addison alive.

Addison's parents and the tournament committee will continue to work hard every year to keep his memory alive.
